Dear Readers and Fellow Gamers!
Thanks for being a subscriber to Video Game Stories! Whether you signed up through Substack recently or discovered me via my Facebook page, I’m excited to have you here.
Just a quick note: While my YouTube channel is dedicated exclusively to the Steam Deck, my newsletters cover all gaming platforms—with a special focus on handhelds from time to time.
The main focus of this post is the video, which you can watch on YouTube or directly here, as it's embedded at the end of the article.
Before you dive into the video, I want to share a bit about my journey and what led me back to this amazing device.
I've always been a huge fan of handheld gaming. My first device was a Gameboy Classic, which I bought way back in 1990. Since then, I’ve owned nearly every Nintendo handheld—Game Boy Color, GBA, DS, 3DS, and so on.
My first 'modern' gaming handheld in the last couple of years was a Steam Deck LCD, and it completely blew me away. Being able to play my Steam library on a handheld was simply fantastic.
2022: Bought a Steam Deck LCD
2023: Sold my Steam Deck
2023: Bought an ASUS ROG Ally
2024: Bought a Steam Deck OLED
In 2023, I sold my Steam Deck and upgraded to an ASUS ROG Ally. It had more power and could handle many AAA games. While I really love the ROG Ally, I missed the Steam Deck almost immediately!
You know that feeling, right? The excitement of researching, reading reviews, and debating whether to hit that "buy" button. There’s something about anticipating that new gadget — imagining how it will fit into your routine and elevate your gaming experience.
In my video, you’ll see why I decided to get a Steam Deck again—this time, the OLED version.
Spoiler: The main reason wasn’t just the OLED display!

Looks great the Steam Deck was considering an ASUS rog ally but it costs more in Asia. Thanks for sharing about the battery and other features I do feel the deck will be the next console for me as I have a bit of backlog on my Steam library
Unfortunately the deck is not sold officially here in Asia, but it’s cheaper than the ROG.
Looks like fun again.
